You’re An Islander

A short eleven months ago, I moved here
and left Toronto’s citylife behind.
I left the joys of Yonge Street in mid-Summer
and came to tiny Charlottetown to find

a place where people smile and say “Good Morning!”,
where neighbours know your name and try to please,
where friendship is a thing you take for granted,
as common as Prince Edward Island breeze.

There’s a gentle kind of people on the Island,
a type of calm that washes like the tide.
The Mainland’s far away, and if only for a day —
you’re an Islander, and feeling good inside.
